Just under 50,000 more Covid-19 vaccine doses have gone into the arms of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland residents since figures were last updated.

Latest NHS stats show that 284,653 patients have had both jabs and 573,312 have had their first injection meaning more than 868,000 doses have been dished out in the area.

Last week figures showed that almost 90 per cent of adults in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland had had at least their first Covid jab.

The adult population is 660,000 meaning health officials are getting ever nearer to vaccinating all those eligible in the area.

The numbers do show a slight decrease in the amount of injections given show that 48,868 doses were given in the week before May 9, compared to the 53,387 injections that were given in the seven days before May 2, and 60,000 in the week before that.

The number of people who have received their first dose by age group is:

Over 80s: 50,695

75-79: 38,394

70-74: 53,184

65-69: 53,042

60-64: 60,333

55-59: 67,169

50-54: 69,411

45-49: 56,874

40-44: 45,458

Under 40: 89,370

The number of people who have received their second dose by age group is:

Over 80s: 47,434

75-79: 36,659

70-74: 50,077

65-69: 40,524

60-64: 21,485

55-59: 18,175

50-54: 15,833

45-49: 12,278

40-44: 10,368

Under 40: 31,820

Younger age groups include NHS, health and social care workers and clincially vulnerable patients.

Patients who are 40 or older, considered clinically vulnerable or who are frontline health or care workers are currently being invited to book jabs or turn up for their injections at drop-in clinics.

The Prime Minister said today that the Government is considering allowing areas where the Indian variant is prevalent to vaccinate those in all age groups to prevent the spread of that strain.
