Deadline for comments on Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan update

The deadline is looming for comments towards an update to the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan.

In March, Uppingham Town Council distributed a booklet on the subject around the town. Tomorrow is the deadline for comments.

Uppingham's Neighbourhood Plan aims to strengthen local control over planning matters in the town, including a possible north-south by-pass.

The current plan was passed five years ago.

Uppingham Town Council's booklet is part of the process for refreshing the town's existing Neighbourhood Plan, and details the sites which landowners and developers have put forward for possible future development.

The Town Council is keen to collect feedback from the public, as part of the wider process for considering, later this year, which sites will be selected. These final sites will then be subject to a referendum of the people of Uppingham.

Residents are being asked about a possible A6003 relief road and the need to set aside land for it.

A recent survey has identified three possible routes for the road, two to the west and one to the east, although the details are still being talked about.

Potential development sites in Uppingham have also been outlines in the booklet.

A 6.5 acre site near Goldcrest and Firs Avenue for 63 homes

Land east of The Beeches to contain 80 homes and open space

Land at Leicester Road for 75 homes, including 23 affordable properties, and setting aside land for a possible future bypass

Land at Ayston Road for 65 homes, including affordable housing and bungalows for the over 55s, along with a new supermarket

Land at Badley Orchard for six affordable homes

Residents can give their views online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NPAG21 and www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/bypass21

They also have until 5pm tomorrow to hand in their brochure to the town clerk at Uppingham Town Hall.

When the booklet was announced in March, Cllr Steve Rozak, Uppingham's Mayor, said "If you care about how the town is being developed over the next few years, it's vital you take part in this consultation".
