An Oakham group is working with similar neighbouring organisations to help refugees.

Yvette Diaz-Munoz of the Stamford Anti Racism Group said: "We are currently collaborating with Oakham4Equality to take donations from Stamford to Melton (where refugees are currently arriving) via Oakham."

Yvette appealed: "Message us if you are able to donate and or take donations over to Oakham/ Melton.

"You can also email stamfordantiracismgroup.com"

Last month, before the Taliban take-over of Afghanistant, Rutland MP Alicia Kearns reported: "Scalford Country House Hotel has entered into an agreement with the Home Office to provide temporary, closed quarantine accommodation to asylum seekers for around five days before being moved to long term accommodation.

"This will be a secure site, and I have made clear to the Home Office that I expect an intensive COVID-19 testing regime. They have confirmed that this will be in place from day one. This agreement is until November."

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, councils across Rutland, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, said they would accommodate refugees that helped the UK.
