Rutland car crime spree

Rutland has been the target of a spate of vehicle crimes recently, with thefts in Oakham and Uppingham.

A house in Cornflower Crescent, Barleythorpe, was broken into overnight of October 26/27 and the keys for blue BMW parked outside were removed from a rack in the hallway. The vehicle was driven away and its number plates later found dumped.

Anyone with CCTV in the area is being asked to check footage and pass any information to PC 1312 Lloyd, Neighbourhood Officer quoting Crime reference 19*574956.

A home in Welland Way, Oakham, was burgled overnight of November 1/2 and keys were removed and used to steal a black Mercedes parked outside, reg PX64 SZO.

At Blackthorn Close, Uppingham, during the night of October 29, a black Land Rover registration LF14 THK was stolen. If anyone in Blackthorn Close has a CCTV and spot anything suspicious, please contact the Crime Investigation Unit on 101 quoting crime ref 19*580208.

In the early hours of the morning on November 1 at Tolethorpe Close, Oakham, a male suspect was seen to enter a vehicle and search its glove box. It's not known what stolen. The suspect is described as male, slim, age and colour not known, around 5'10" tall, wearing a silver grey quilted jacket and red gloves.

At Haydock Avenue, Barleythorpe, overnight on October 31 to November 1 someone caused criminal damage to motor vehicle by spraying yellow paint on it.

In Oakham Road, Braunston, overnight on October 28/29, the front number plate FR19 YDA was stolen from a vehicle in the driveway.

ADVICE FOR CAR OWNERS

If you have an expensive car, not only should you put the keys in a 'relay' secure 'Faraday' bag but do not place this in a clearly visible place such, as a key rack, close to the front door.
