Rutland Zoo seeks volunteers as it prepares to re-open

Rutland Zoo is appealing for volunteers as it prepares to re-open later this month.

The not-for-profit zoo, based at Empingham, cannot open until May 17 due to government regulations as it is currently an all-indoor attraction.

The zoo has posted on its Facebook site that it will launch a pre-booking system for time slots and when that is up and running. Then, it will also announce how to book, time slots available and pricing.

During lockdown, its operators say the site on Sykes Lane has apart from one area in the Jungle area, undergone a renovation and "given a 'glow up'. "

Earlier this year, the zoo, formerly known as Bugtopia, launched an appeal to help fund outdoor facilities to allow for an April opening, as previously reported by Nub News.

It also sought ideas for future attractions.

Yesterday, the zoo posted on Facebook: "We have received many enquires about potential job roles available or if we are looking for volunteers.

"Unfortunately we do not have any paid job openings at the moment, however we will be advertising a position in the summer.

"But we are looking for volunteers NOW.

"So please resend those emails if sent before, or send your first to [email protected]. FAO of Joanna."

The post added: "Experience of working or keeping exotics is a benefit BUT don't let that put you off thinking we won't consider people without qualifications. Having passion, enthusiasm and enjoying being part of a diverse team is just as important to us. Must be 18 years of age or over."
