This weekend Oakham brings more events to the local people, with a range of events suitable for families and couples, those looking to relax, or adventurers in search of something a bit more active.

  1. Goodnight Mister Tom at Rutland County Museum

Rutland Arts Theatre Society present Goodnight Mister Tom at the Rutland County Museum.

Performances of the classic story about a World War II evacuee and his host Mr Tom Oakley will run from Thursday 21st of October until Saturday 23rd of October. The doors to the museum will open at 7pm and the show times are scheduled for 7:30pm.

Michelle Magorian's classic wartime story has been re-imaged for the stage by David Wood to bring you a moving tale of discovery, loss and friendship:

Evacuated to the English countryside just before the start of World War II William Beech is entrusted into the care of the elderly and reclusive widower Tom Oakley.

William has trouble adjusting to village life at first, but as he makes friends with other children in the area and begins to feel safe with Tom the unlikely pair gradually build a strong bond together.

Just as everything appears to be settled William is summoned back to his neglecting and abusive mother in London and it's unclear whether Tom will ever see him again.

After several weeks pass with no sign of a letter from William, Tom becomes increasingly concerned for his welfare he sets off to London in search of him.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for £8, or on the doors for £10. They are available at wegottickets.com or at Colemans in the high street.

  1. MankyBeds at the Grainstore Brewery

MankyBeds formed in June 2013 when Paul McGeady and Mark Cooper chanced a go at a "duet" on a drunken Thursday evening in the Black Bull, Sawston.

The plan was simple. Two blokes, two guitars, some beer and then a kebab. Despite only completing one song, a small round of applause greeted them and one week later "MankyBeds" were formed.

Since then the duo have grown and have been performing at events across the country. They will be gracing the Grainstore stage at 8:45pm on Friday the 22nd of October.

Entry is free to this event but if you require a table, pre booking is advisable. Tables for dinner and drinks are also available. The Grainstore can be reached on 01572770065.
