By The Editor 9th Sep 2021

An Oakham councillor has quit Rutland County Council.

Adam Lowe, was the Independent (non-aligned) member for the Oakham North West ward.

Rutland County Council announced the vacancy this afternoon.

A statement said: "Cllr Lowe submitted his resignation from Rutland County Council in writing on Wednesday 8 September, effective immediately.

"An election will be held to fill the vacancy within thirty-five days, after the required notice is made in writing to the Returning Officer by two local government electors.

"The full Notice of Vacancy has been published on the Rutland County Council website: www.rutland.gov.uk/elections."

Coun Lowe works for the probation service and is also an Oakham Town Councillor and a governor of Catmose Primary School.

Earlier this year, he walked Hadrian Wall for charity, as reported by Nub News.

This is the second resignation from Rutland County Council in recent months.

Coun Nick Woodley 9Conservative) resigned from the council in July, as previously reported by Nub News.

The ensuing by-election was later won by Liberal Democrat Paul Browne.
