Uppingham Community College: 200 taking part in 'sell-out' cycling fundraiser

By The Editor 15th Oct 2020

A charity bike road to help a fire ravaged Rutland school has attracted hundreds of competitors.

The Uppingham Community College Fire Relief Sportive will feature 200 cyclists, who will take part in a cycle ride from the college on Sunday.

Groups will set off every few minutes to ensure the fundraiser meets Covid-19 safety guidelines.

The event was devised by partners Bruce Donald and Lisa Thipthorp, whose each have a 14-year-old daughter - Maizy Donald and Tilly Thipthorp - who attend the college.

The couple run Gretton-based events company WildDog Events and are putting their skills to good use by organising the fundraiser.

As Nub News reported recently, two courses will be offered- 22 miles and 51 miles- both starting and finishing at the college.

Lisa told Nub News: "We have 200 cyclists registered & are looking forward to an amazing day, even the weather appears to be on our side!"
