Craig Robinson of Melton and Rutland Police, PC 1101, was out in the community this weekend, and has shared his 'day in the life of', in which he chatted to locals, addressed concerns and followed up on reports of anti-social behaviour.

Rural police working across Melton and Rutland tackle a range of issues and crimes in their day-to-day work. These include speeding, anti-social behaviour, theft and other crimes impacting rural areas. Rural crimes more common across Rutland and Leicestershire are hare coursing, theft and damage on agricultural land and property, livestock worrying and more general crimes taking place in rural areas.

The local team tackle this by getting out and about and speaking to locals, who are encouraged to share concerns with the team.

PC Robinson said: "This weekend, I have been out and about on foot patrol across Oakham and Barleythorpe interacting with the general public and some of the local shops.

"Overall, there has been plenty of positive interactions with locals with some voicing some concerns around speeding in certain areas around Oakham and Barleythorpe. To support this concern, the areas mentioned will be targeted over the next few weeks with speed monitoring and those that are not abiding by the speed limits that are in place will be dealt with at the same time.

"Residents also voiced concerns around anti-social behaviour in and around the local parks. This is an ongoing beat priority that myself and PCSO Lyall will be continuing to interact with youths around Oakham and Barleythorpe and deal with those that are causing issues appropriately.

"A further resident brought to my attention that there was an abandoned vehicle on their street, having done checks on the vehicle and spoken to the owner all was in order and vehicle moved from the area. Further to this, I have also spoken to several victims and offered support to them, gathered statements and organised voluntary interviews."

If you see any urgent rural times taking place, such as theft and hare coursing, call 999.

For crimes such as anti-social behaviour, residents can report online or by calling 101.
