National Highways have announced safety works to be carried out on the A1 in 2025 following priority request by Rutland MP Alicia Kearns.

In a statement released this week by Kearns, she said: 'Nearly 1,000 collisions were recorded on the A1 between Peterborough and Blythe between 2015 and 2022.

"It is enormously welcome news that National Highways will be carrying out further safety improvements on the A1, this time between South Witham and Little Ponton.

"While there is still more to be done, this maintenance work is an important step forward to improve the safety of this stretch of the A1."

The work is scheduled to start mid-January until the end of March 2025, which will include resurfacing and refreshing of road markings, improving signage, clearing vegetation and carrying out layby maintenance work.

In order to keep disruption caused by this work to a minimum and the programme of work as short as possible, work will take place between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday.

There will be a public meeting hosted by Kearns on Friday 15th November from 6pm – 7.30pm at South Witham Village Hall. This is open to anyone who lives locally or regularly drives on the A1 and lives within the constituency of Rutland and Stamford.
