Bikes, tractors and lots of walking: Rutland Ride and Stride once again a triumph

Rutland Ride and Stride returned on Saturday 13th September with participants from across the county undergoing the challenge of visiting as many of Rutland's beautiful churches in one day by a chosen form of transport (except driving).
The fundraiser raised vital funds for Rutland's Historic Churches Preservation Trust (RHCPT).
Throughout the day, cyclists were out in force, whether that be individually, in pairs or larger groups.
A team of six from Market Overton started their ride at 7am, visiting all 64 churches in the county and cycling over 200km.

Beverley Hancock, Secretary and acting Treasurer of RHCPT walked to an impressive 18 different churches.
Simon Forster from Ketton rode drove his vintage 1949 Ferguson tractor, visiting Tinwell, Eidith Weston and North Luffenham.

Rutland's own High Sheriff Richard Chesterfield visited 62 by motorbike and Joshua Davis from Egleton took a different approach and played the organ in all the churches he visited, entertaining other Ride and Striders and volunteers.
Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland and President of the RHCPT got involved on the day too, visiting 12 churches.
She said: 'We visited 8 churches and cycled 12 miles – enormous fun! I am a great fan of electric bikes! Jason Allen, Chair of Discover Rutland and Andrew Robinson accompanied me.
'Jason and I were on two Discover Rutland electric bikes. It was a super day!
'Thanks to all who raised funds to preserve these important buildings. In Rutland, we have really significant historic churches punctuating our beautiful countryside. They are an important part of our culture and heritage.
'Thanks to all who gave up their time to welcome Riders and Striders to sign in, rest and refuel in Rutland's churches and chapels. There were some delicious cakes on offer to participants as well.'

The money raised by Ride and Stride will go towards the RHCPT, which works to restore and repair the county's historic churches and chapels.
Donations are still open on the Good Hub fundraiser page for Ride and Stride and a final total amount raised will be announced soon.
