The boss of Leicestershire and Rutland's health board has announced her retirement.

In the board papers for this week's meeting of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board (LLR ICB) Caroline Trevithick, who has been at the helm since, has announced she will be retiring.

In her chief executive report she says: "After a long deliberation, I have made the decision that the time is right for me to retire this summer. This is my 38th year working for the NHS. My decision to retire is based on a combination of my personal circumstances and an acknowledgement that the NHS is about to embark on a new journey with the development of a new 10-year plan.

Caroline was first appointed as an interim chief after former ICB boss Andy Williams retired in 2023. Before that she was the ICB's chief nursing officer and has had a long career in nursing. She was earning a salary of at least £170,000.

The role of the ICB is for planning and managing the NHS budget to meet the needs of the local population.

The LLR integrated care system, which is made up of the ICB, the hospital trust and the community nursing and mental health services, has significant financial issues and is currently predicting it will overspend this year by £110m. £80m of the deficit was given in the form of a bailout in December, which will have to be repaid. The majority of the overspend comes with the hospital trust's budget and latest reports say the ICB itself is £26.6million overspent this year.

She is one of three ICB bosses from the Midlands region to announce they are retiring since the start of the year.
