Break-downs hit Rutland bin collections

22nd Jan 2021 | Local News

Rutland Council reports a number of missed bin collections over the past week, due to ongoing issues with breakdowns and repairs affecting its collection vehicles.

The team at Biffa have been working extremely hard to get vehicles back on the road and to catch up with collections and the council has said it apologises to those affected by the disruption.

In order to get back to a normal service, its usual Thursday collections in Oakham will now take place on Saturday 23 January. This means crews can use Thursday to collect any missed bins across the county and ensure that the Friday collections, which cover Oakham and several villages, go ahead without further disruption.

Any outstanding collections on the Farms and Lodges or Communal Properties routes will be completed by Friday 22 January.

Rutland Council asks people to leave their bins in it's normal collection place during this time, do not take it in if it has not been collected.

This will allow staff to get fully caught up and places less strain on the vehicles and crews, who are already working overtime to get the job done.

A council statement added: "Again, we apologise for this disruption and want to say a big thank you, on behalf of the collection crews, for your patience and understanding."
