Happy Burns Night!

Burns Night is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many Scottish poems.

Burns Suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, to mark the occasion - also known as Burns Night, also called Robert Burns Day or Rabbie Burns Day.

Burns suppers are held all around the world, most frequently in January. They usually include haggis, needs and tatties, whiskey, dancing and revelry.

A few venues across Oakham will be marking the occasion this weekend.

On Friday 26 January, Oakham Rugby Football Club (ORFC) will be hosting a Burns Night Supper to support a tour event for the junior members.

ORFC will be marking the event in style as they always do, with a piper and ceilidh, traditional two course dinner, raffle and silent auction.

Tickets cost £59, and can be purchased on the ORFC website or by scanning the QR code on the event flyer:

The Barnsdale, formerly armadale Lodge, will also be hosting their annual Burns Night event.

Set to take place on 27 January, the team at The Barnsdale are getting ready for their infamous Burns Night, including a four course dinner, a traditional pipe and Robert Burns' Poem Readings.

Tickets cost £45 per head.
