A local community garden is getting ready to launch weekly sessions for children aged two to five.

After the summer holidays, the team will be offering a new series of gentle play and exploration sessions in their peaceful shared garden, Growers Row.

Growers Row, located at Rutland Showground, is a community gardening space hosted by Root-and-Branch-Out, a local organisation that champions food, nature and the environment.

The established gardening scheme sees local people come together to cultivate a thriving and productive space open to the whole community, and is open every Wednesday from 10am until 3pm, 46 weeks a year.

While all of the work is done on a volunteer basis, for the love of gardening and collaboration, gardeners share the produce that comes from the garden when it is ready to harvest.

The team said: "Two years ago, Growers Row was just an empty field - now it is a thriving and productive garden for the whole community!

"We grow food and hold workshops in the winter and have the accessible raised gardens, polytunnels, rescue flower bed, wildflower meadow, key-hole gardens, and children's play area for local people to enjoy.

"There is something for everyone."

Starting in September, they will now be hosting family friendly sessions aimed at getting children between the ages of two and five in touch with nature.

The sessions will take place every Monday from 11 September until 9 October.

Sessions will take place from 9:30am until 11am and can be booked by emailing [email protected].

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Alternatively, the team offer Therapeutic Gardening Courses for those hoping to reap the mental heath and social benefits of joining the scheme.

These run for 6 weeks at a time and teach skills such as how to prepare the soil, sow seeds, identify weeds and perform garden maintenance.
