Conservatives win Rutland by-election with Andrew Dinsmore elected for Barleythorpe Ward

Rutland Conservatives win Barleythorpe by-election, electing barrister Andrew Dinsmore. 

After only 29.7% of voters turned out for the by-election, Dinsmore took 35% of the vote, meaning now seven councillors on the authority are Conservative. 

During his election campaign, Dinsmore promised to focus on road improvement, flooding in the area and engaging more with young people. 

The outcome of the election were as follows: 

  • Andy Burton (Independent) – 114 votes 
  • Andrew William Nixon Dinsmore (Conservative Party) – 209 votes ELECTED 
  • Declan McCarthy (Reform UK) – 123 votes 
  • Jonathan David Nichols (Liberal Democrat) – votes 136
