Rutland recorded 13 coronavirus cases today, Boxing Day.

The figures come as the county returned to Tier 2 restrictions after the one day Christmas Bubble, which relaxed regulations yesterday only, before Tier 2 was re-imposed earlier today.

No deaths were recorded today as well, keeping the number of fatalities in Rutland at 25 since the start of the pandemic. This amounts to just over 1 per thousand of population.

In the past week, Rutland has recorded 48 cases of Covid-19, giving it a weekly rate of 120.2 cases per 100,000.

This compares with a weekly rate of 49 on Christmas Day, or 122.7 in the 7 days to December 25.

Since the pandemic started, the county has recorded 656 cases in the period up to Boxing day, compared with 643 in the run up to Christmas Day.

This amounts to just 1643 cases per 100,000 of the population.

Both date rates and case rates remain well below the national average.

Today, NHS England reported 36, 493 new cases across the UK, with 251, 787 happening over the past 7 days. However, testing continues to further rise substantially. We now have a total number of confirmed UK cases of 2,256,005.

England alone has recorded 211,040 cases over the past week, giving a rate 374.9 cases per 100,000.

The number of deaths across the UK increased 210 to 70,405.

Meanwhile, nearby Lincolnshire has a 7 day rate of 265 cases per 100,000 with the county recording 2017 cases over the past week.

Among the districts, South Kesteven, which includes Stamford, has recorded 374 cases over the past week, giving it a 7 day rate of 262.6due to it recording 70 cases today, giving it a total number of 3548 cases since the pandemic started.

Lincolnshire, however, remains in Tier 3, as does Leicester and Leicestershire. Peterborough was recently placed in Tier 4, leaving Rutland in an island of Tier 2, compared to its neighbours who are currently in higher tiers of restrictions.
