Rutland County Council's Chief Executive, Helen Briggs, has, announced that, by mutual agreement with the Council Leadership, she will be postponing her retirement from the Council to support Rutland through the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Briggs announced in January she would be retiring from the Council later this year, but in light of the current exceptional circumstances she has agreed to put her retirement plans on hold and has withdrawn her resignation to ensure stability for the Council and the County.

The Council will now put the process to find her replacement on hold.

Helen Briggs, Chief Executive of Rutland County Council, said: "These are unique and exceptional times and it is important that there is consistency of leadership during this period, which is why I have made this decision."

Councillor Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council, adds: "I am grateful to Helen for offering to postpone her retirement until we have greater clarity over the Covid-19 situation. Helen remaining in post will ensure we have continuous stability and support during these unprecedented times."

Recruitment to the chief executive post has been suspended and will be reconvened at a later date.
