Rutland County Council has shared more information about tree removal works taking place along Brooke Road in Oakham.

In a statement, the council said: "We understand that some of our residents are concerned about the removal of several trees along Brooke Road in Oakham.

"The removal of these trees is needed to allow the developer Burmor Construction Limited to improve the surrounding highway layout as part of the Brooke Road Allotments Development.

"The removal of these trees was approved by the Council's Planning Committee in August 2020, after the independent Planning Inspectorate had reviewed the developer's initial application and confirmed this did not provide sufficient reason why planning permission should not be granted.

"The Brooke Road Allotments Development is to be made up of 40 new affordable homes and will see more than a dozen new trees planted on the site, to make up for any loss of existing trees during construction."
