Cycle racks installed in Oakham and Uppingham

By The Editor 3rd Oct 2020

A five-hoop cycle rack has been installed in the Yarn Market car park in Uppingham, providing parking for up to 10 bikes.

A three-hoop cycle rack has also been installed outside Oakham library, providing parking for up to six bikes.

Both Oakham Town Council and Uppingham Town Council helped to choose the locations for the improvements.

Coun Lucy Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Transport said: "We want to encourage people to make use of sustainable travel options, wherever possible.

"Cycling is a great alternative to car travel. It's greener and kinder to the environment, as well as being good for your physical and mental health.

"We've invested in new cycle racks in both our market towns to increase the number of places where bikes can be left securely, which will hopefully encourage more people to make short journeys on two wheels."

Funding for the new cycle racks was provided by the Department for Transport.

Rutland County Council is continuing to look at further opportunities to secure national grant funding that would allow it to carry out more improvements to local cycling infrastructure.
