A TV company is appealing for people to help them make a programme about a son who murdered his Rutland parents.

Leeds-based True North Productions Ltd is making a series called Forensic Files for the Sky Crime network.

Researcher Joe Roddis explained: "The aim of the series is to educate and inform our viewers about how forensic science is really used in police investigations and the ways in which it is able to play a major role in helping police catch dangerous offenders and secure successful convictions.

"This series tells the story of eight murder cases – each one resolved thanks in part, to the role of forensic science.

"In every episode we'll seek contributions from the forensic experts who led that element of the investigation. We want to unravel the key breakthroughs and understand how science was able to help catch a killer."

He continued: "We'll do this with first person testimony from those scientists where possible and in some cases, we'll use carefully selected experts who can help us to understand the role science played, the forensic challenges the case presented, and the legacy of that science in other investigations.

"In each episode we unpack a case in detail and feature contributors who are best placed and able to tell the story and lead the audience through how each case was solved."

One of the episodes will focus on the murders of Derek and Eileen Severs by their son Roger in 1993 in Rutland.

Derek was a successful businessman, Eileen was involved in charity work, and were known as pillars of their community in Hambleton. Roger, however, had no career to speak of, lived off his parents all his life, and stood to inherit a fortune.

Joe said: "It would be incredibly helpful to our research and understanding to have first-hand input from people in the area to speak to us about their experiences from 1993.

"We have also spoken to the police and expert/s involved in the case who can explain the role forensic science played in the conviction of Roger Severs.

"I am looking to speak to people who knew Roger, Derek and Eileen or remember it happening."

Anyone who can help is asked to email Joe at [email protected]
