Bin collections in Oakham will take place at a slightly earlier time tomorrow (Thurs), in response to weather forecasts predicting extremely high temperatures.

According to the MetOffice, daytime temperatures are expected to reach 34°C in Rutland, with health leaders issuing safety advice encouraging people to take care in the heat.

Public Health England is advising everyone to avoid physical exertion during in the hottest parts of the day, wear light clothing, drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm.

In order to protect crews collecting household waste and recycling in Oakham, collections tomorrow will begin at 6am, rather than at the usual time of 7am.

This is to make sure that contractors can complete their routes before the hottest part of the day.

Residents are asked to make their bins available for collection in time for the 6am start.

Collections will return to normal from Friday (26 July).
