Former Oakham Mayor and Town Councillor Zoë Nealson has quit the Council after a heated and dramatic meeting last night, Wednesday 7 December.

The meeting, which focused upon a vote concerning the Oakham Skatepark Project, was challenging for both Councillors and members of the public in attendance - no more so than for Cllr Nealson herself who, after enduring a headed moment with Cllr Adam Lowe, left the meeting and subsequently handed in her resignation.

Mrs Nealson said: "I have been embarrassed to be a member of Oakham Town Council. Last night this embarrassment escalated to shame."

The meeting, in which Oakham Town Council surprised by voting against the Centenary Fields skatepark proposal, became heated when Cllr Nealson was told not to "lie" by Cllr Lowe.

This was one of many reasons given by Mrs Nealson for her resignation.

Being a mother of three herself, Zoë also shared her feeling that OTC "offer nothing" for children who struggle to access mainstream activities. She added: "The public were disappointed that the council could not support a positive move for the town's typically overlooked older children and teens."

Find out more about OTC's vote against the skatepark proposal here, including comments from those 'for' and 'against' the project, and how the Cllrs in attendance voted.
