A free pop up cycling event has proven popular in Oakham today, Monday 24 July.

Street Velodrome is the "world's most accessible live cycle sport event" that is award-winning, and entirely free to join.

It is no wonder, then, that it has attracted the crowds at Oakham Market Place today.

Young and old have enjoyed the free pop up event in Oakham this morning, with the fun continuing until 5pm - weather permitting.

Since its launch in 2014, the pop-up event solution which brings cycle track racing to the public has been utilised in a variety of ways across the globe, for numerous clients, partners, brands and local authorities.

Central to the velodrome's structure are two dramatically banked corners which allow riders to experience the thrill of an Olympic-style cycle track racing. The rest of the equipment forms a highly-branded fan zone area and is full of atmosphere with live music, celebrity presenters and expert coaches keeping spectator crowds entertained.

The Street Velodrome concept was created by the late Carl Thompson in 2014.

Carl, a passionate cyclist and 'get active' campaigner, joined Cube in 2018, and led the SV activation until 2022.

He was succeeded by Street Velodrome's General Manager, Patrick Robinson, who joined Cube in 2023 and manages the velodrome activations, continuing Carl's legacy in bringing Street Velodrome to the masses and making cycle sport and the thrill of cycling fun, accessible and exciting for all.

This legacy is now inspiring the young of Rutland to get involved in the sport, and has already seen 100s of young people and parents and carers head to Oakham Market Place to enjoy the fun today.

Olivia and Florence, 6 and 9, had a go this morning.

Proud dad said: They did a great job and the coaches were really helpful, telling them what to do and giving them a hand when they needed it."
