GALLERY: Mayor to host grand reopening of local salon
Today, Friday 3 November, the Mayor of Oakham will be attending the grand reopening of GLOW, a local salon that has relocated to Oakham High Street.
A launch event, set to take place at 9:30am, will welcome new and existing customers to the new home of GLOW, a Rutland-based hair and beauty studio owned by Gemma Adams.
Set up in 2015, GLOW was founded in Barnsdale Lodge, now The Barnsdale, before moving to its temporary home in Gaol Street, Oakham, in March 2023.
Now, the team hope to have found their forever home at 34 High Street, Oakham, Rutland.
Over the last two months, Gemma and the team have been working hard, with the support of local suppliers and tradies, to get their new home spick and span in time for today's grand opening.
Formerly Rutland Toys and Dance Boutique, GLOW has moved into 34 High Street, which proved a mammoth task after the historic high street building was left empty for four years prior to Gemma's ambitious plan to take on the shop.
Gemma said: "Our new salon will be warm and welcoming to all existing and new clients and the team of 12 will enjoy having the space they've needed for a long time.
"We hope we've done the building proud."
She continued: "We would like to thank all the local traders that have worked tirelessly to help bring this together:
- Marcus Baines tiler
- Steff Marles Fine Finish decorator
- Michael Hoy plastering services
- Odom electrics
- Jack burrows carpentry
- Ricky Barrow Plumbing
- Quoin Print
- Gs bakehouse
- Knights of Oakham
- Mango & the Moon living
- Two Chimps coffee
"Thank you, and we can't wait to welcome the customers to our new home."
