Five grassroots sports projects in Rutland and Melton will receive funding from the Government's Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme.

More than 1,100 multi-sport grassroots sport projects across the UK will benefit from £93 million in Government funding towards new pitches, changing rooms, goalposts and floodlights.

The Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme funding is investing in areas that are most in need of new or renovated facilities. The funding is part of £400 million Government investment in grassroots facilities, including multisport pitches, tennis courts and swimming pools, supporting the Government's drive to get 3.5 million more adults and children active by 2030.

Recipients of grants in Rutland and Melton are as follows:

  • One Touch Football Club, Meadow Playing Fields. Facility type: goalposts. Grant award: £1,080.
  • Houghton Rangers Juniors FC, Houghton Field. Facility type: goalposts. Grant award: £1,080.
  • Cottesmore Amateur FC, Westray Park. Facility type: goalposts. Grant award: £1,205.
  • Bottesford FC. Facility type: storage. Grant award: £2,250.
  • Asfordby Amateurs Ladies, Girls & Inclusive FC, John Ferneley College. Facility type: storage. Grant award: £2,475.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton, said: "I am delighted for the wonderful grassroots sports projects in our communities receiving this significant boost in Government funding.

"Sport has the power to bring people of all ages together, and is vital for not only our physical, but also mental health.

"I hope the new and improved facilities will inspire many more members of our communities to get active this year and try their hand at something new!"

Stuart Andrew, Sports Minister, said: "Sport and physical activity are vital to our mental health and wellbeing, and each year thousands of people make a New Year's resolution to exercise more.

"We know one of the major barriers to getting active is having access to high-quality sports facilities, which is why we are investing in 1,100 more projects, backed by £93 million.

"This government has delivered thousands of new projects across the UK with the aim of getting over 120,000 more people to get active, helping us to make big strides towards meeting our ambitious target of 3.5 million more people active by 2030."
