Rutland County Council will be holding a series of special meetings to allow residents to have their say and discuss the possible impacts of local government reorganisation.

The authority hopes these meetings will help them to gather feedback on the proposals, as well as find out local people's priorities and concerns with the various plans.

This comes after the leader of Rutland County Council Councillor Gale Waller said: "I have consistently stated if I had my own way, I would leave Rutland as we are – a small unitary council providing very good services while successfully managing our budget. But I had and still have no real choice."

Rutland Council have been told by the government to look at alignment with Leicestershire, and that neighbouring councils in Lincolnshire were not given the option of including Rutland as a potential merger partner.

Despite this, Rutland was included in one of the eight proposals put forward by representatives from Lincolnshire and meetings held by Alicia Kearns earlier in the year found residents favoured a merger with Kesteven, South Holland or Stamford over Leicestershire.

The meetings for residents to discuss the options will be:

  • Uppingham, Tuesday 15 July
  • Greetham, Wednesday 16 July
  • Ketton, Monday 21 July
  • Ryhall, Tuesday 22 July
  • Oakham, Thursday 24 July
