High Sheriff of Rutland to host Justice Service
The High Sheriff of Rutland will be hosting a Justice Service for the County of Rutland next month.
On 6 October, Geraldine Feehally, the High Sheriff of Rutland, will be hosting a service for the County of Rutland at All Saints' Church, Church Street, Oakham.
The Office of High Sheriff is a non-political Royal appointment that lasts for one year.
In an annual ceremony held on 12 November in the Royal Courts of Justice, three names are put forward by the Queen's Remembrancer for the office of High Sheriff in each county. Subsequently the selection of every new High Sheriff is made at a Privy Council meeting from the names given.
Geraldine was declared in March, and has since been working with local officials the Rutland community to celebrate volunteers, support the homeless and champion legal establishments and the royal family.
Next on her busy schedule, she will be hosting the annual Justice Service for Rutland.
Geraldine explained: "The Justice Service is one of prayer and thanksgiving for all who have the responsibility of administering justice, ensuring our safety and security and promoting peaceful communities. The service will include representatives from both national and local, voluntary and public services as together we consider the value of law and order, justice and peace in our lives."
The justice service will take place at All Saints' church on Friday 6 October at 10am.
Before the service, at 9.30am, a procession will assemble at Oakham Castle containing members of the judiciary, military, civic High Sheriff's and other local officials.
The procession will walk to the church where a brass fanfare will welcome them to the service.
