Following National Fossil Day earlier this week, Rutland Hall Hotel is transporting guests at their Blossoms restaurant, back in time to the era of the dinosaurs with their brand-new interactive Jurassic Afternoon Tea, including a short story by a local school pupil - all in time for half term!

Back in January 2022, locals may remember when the fossilised remains of a 180 million-year-old ichthyosaur, a 10-metre-long sea predator from the early Jurassic Period, were discovered in the Rutland reservoir – just a stone's throw away from the hotel itself.

This was an unprecedented discovery of one of the largest and most complete skeletons of the prehistoric species found anywhere in the world.

To celebrate this Rutland Hall launched a competition encouraging the public to pen a compelling short story, that links with the mysterious and almost mythical 'sea dragon'. This was won by local school pupil Phoebe, whose story 'The Beast of Rutland' will now be included in the afternoon tea offering, for guests to read whilst tucking in.

Prepare to embark on a prehistoric journey like no other, as they have unveiled a fun menu filled with delicious delights and interactive fun for both young and old. Here's a sneak peek at what you can expect:

Dino-Sandwiches: Enjoy freshly made sandwiches that have been transformed into adorable dinosaur shapes.

Interactive Shortbread Biscuit: Youngsters and the young at heart can get in on the action by personalising their very own dinosaur-shaped shortbread biscuit using icing pens.

Sausage Roll: Sink your teeth into a savory sausage roll that's sure to satisfy your dino-sized appetite.

Chocolate Brownie and Cupcake: Satisfy your sweet tooth with a rich and indulgent chocolate brownie, a true Jurassic treat.

The Jurassic Afternoon Tea will be available from this weekend 14th October and throughout the upcoming half term and 12-5pm every day. Priced at £20, it's the perfect way to make your family's half-term break extra roarsome!

Blending scrumptious flavours with interactive fun, this afternoon tea promises to be a roaring success and the perfect way to celebrate World Archaeology Day.
