Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service hard at work after severe flooding impacts areas across Rutland
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue have had a busy 24 hours after severe flooding hit across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland yesterday. The service declared a major incident and have continued to respond to calls from the public.
Since declaring a major incident at 12 noon yesterday (6 January), the Fire and Rescue Service have responded to over 380 calls and attended 56 flooding incidents.
Their firefighters have also been door-knocking in areas that were badly affected to offer advice and assistance to local people.
They continue to state that it is really important for people to continue to follow flooding advice by avoiding flood water, even if it looks shallow, as low as knee height can still have hidden debris and open man-holes.
They also ask drivers to find alternative routes when roads are flooded, water can be a lot deeper than it appears and cars can easily become stranded.
For regular updates, keep checking local advice, listen to local radio updates and check flooding maps.
