A Leicestershire Police constable will face an online hearing next week (SWNS).

A Leicestershire Police constable has been accused of rigging his laptop to make it look like he was working when he was not. The unnamed officer allegedly set up his device while working remotely so a key was "pressed consecutively for extended periods of time".

The force has accused him of not carrying out "work-related tasks during these times" but making the laptop screen stay live and unlocked to make it appear he was online. This was done to "deceive colleagues and/or supervisors", the force claimed.

The constable allegedly did this on on multiple occasions in December 2023 and January 2024. He will now face a gross misconduct hearing over the claims.

He is accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour. If proven, the actions would amount to a breach of honesty and integrity, duties and responsibilities, and creditable conduct, the force said.

An online hearing will take place next week. Chief constable Rob Nixon has directed the constable be granted anonymity throughout the hearing for "welfare reasons".
