Library buildings in Oakham are to be refurbished as part of Rutland County Council's plans to make services more available.
The council is to make £950,000 of improvements to local libraries so that people can access more local services where they live.
The improvements are part of Rutland County Council's Communities and Prevention programme and will see the refurbishment of library buildings in Ketton, Oakham, Ryhall and Uppingham including some remodelling to create accessible community hubs.
The new facilities will include not only the existing library services but also offer easy access to advice and information; health and wellbeing activities and support; adult learning; practical support and social activities for people of all ages, including older people, children, young people and families.
Portfolio Holder for Children and Families, Cllr Tim Smith, said: "This is a huge part of our plans to improve local services for residents and we're very excited to be able to make these changes to our libraries. In recent years, especially amidst the challenges of rising living costs, libraries have become a vital resource for residents, serving as an inclusive and welcoming space for all.
"Our goal is to enrich our libraries by providing not only the traditional services but also widen this offer so that it caters to the whole community – ensuring there is something for everyone and helping people to access the services they need more easily."
Currently, Rutland County Council is undertaking a tender process for the improvement works. The work is expected to start shortly and be completed this year.
