Oakham's Victoria Hall has taken to their social media to announce that they have been forced to cancel their upcoming fundraiser for Sue Ryder due to low ticket sales. 

The event, which was supposed to take place on 18th July at the historic hall, has now been cancelled, with organisers saying only 8 tickets had been sold for the event. 

The now-cancelled fundraiser was going to be a quiz raising funds for Sue Ryder, a charity supporting people struggling with bereavement and those affected with life limiting illnesses. 

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Victoria Hall said: "Despite promoting the event through social media, the local press and posters, only 8 tickets were sold. Unfortunately, we cannot rely on people just turning up on the night to make the event financially viable. 

"This reflects the challenging environment for local events at the moment. Please, if you can, support your local events whenever possible. Without your support, we will be forced to cancel more activities, which leads to further disappointment, and people then say there is nothing to do in Oakham."
