An Uppingham-based Firefighter has stepped down after over a decade serving the local community.

'Kev', a local man and Firefighter of over ten years has "hung up his alerter" today, Thursday 28 September, and will be moving on to enjoy a slightly 'cooler' life away from the service.

The Uppingham branch of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Services said: "Today, after 10 years and 7 month service, Kev has hung up his alerter. Thanks from all the crew and the community you served. Good luck on your new venture, you will be missed."

The team added: "If you want to join the family we are now recruiting on call firefighters."

The role of a Firefighter is varied and fighting fires is only one part. Firefighters deal with many other incidents including road traffic collisions, chemical accidents, floods, and animal rescues.

To find out more about the role, follow the team on social media or head online. Alternatively, find out about the 'have a go day' taking place in Market Harborough for applicants across the service.
