A group of local Firefighters are getting ready to climb Ben Nevis for charity.

The team, who tackle blazes across Rutland and Leicestershire, will soon be climbing the UK's biggest mountain.

Closely followed by Snowdon and Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis is the tallest mountain in the UK and is a popular spot for adventure seekers and boundary pushers who are looking for a challenge.

However, a group of local firefighters are going the extra mile to make this particular challenge a big one.

Not only will they be climbing all 1,345m of the mountain, but they will be doing in in their full kit for charity.

They are fundraising for The Fire Fighters Charity and The Well Kibworth, and the team hope to raise £1,345, or £1 for each metre climbed.

The Fire Fighters Charity is a cause that works to support firefighters and their families mentally, physically and socially if they need help.

The Well is a registered charity (1179660) operating a food bank, café, pre-loved shop plus other support services for local communities. They offer a warm welcome, friendship and support for everyone in Kibworth and the surrounding villages.

They work with local partners such as children's charities, Helping Hands, Local Area Coordinators, Life Links, Leicester Fire and Rescue Service and Cross Counties PCN, to offer a range of free support and advice services to anyone who wants or needs them.

This is not the first time the team have taken part in a challenge like this, climbing Snowdon last year.

They explained: "After our first challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon and raising money for two great charities we have now set out a new, more demanding challenge in climbing Mount Ben Nevis."

Firefighters from the Leicestershire and Rutland Fire and Rescue Service will be attempting to climb Ben Nevis wearing full Fire Kit in a bid to raise money for charity on 2 September 2023.
