Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland visits Sue Ryder hospice

Staff, volunteers and patients at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice welcomed a very special visitor recently – Dr Sarah Furness, Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland.
During her visit, Dr Furness found out about the expert palliative care and support the hospice provides for families in Rutland.
Dr Furness met with hospice staff and volunteers, including Hospice Director Allison Mann.
Based in Peterborough, Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice provides compassionate palliative care for people who are living with life-limiting conditions in Rutland, as well as supporting their families.
The hospice offers specialist care in its 20-bed inpatient unit, as well as a Hospice at Home service which cares for people in their own homes.
"I was very impressed; Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is a wonderful modern facility where every detail has been thought of for patients and their families," said Dr Furness.
"The hospice is welcoming and family-centred with a special play area and beautiful and extensive gardens.
"I enjoyed finding out about the hospice care and Hospice at Home service available to residents living in East Rutland."
Hospice Director Allison Mann said:"We were delighted to welcome Dr Furness to our hospice to show her how we are there when it matters for families in Rutland.
"Our team includes doctors, nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists, occupational and complementary therapists, social workers and bereavement support workers.
"We all work together to support local people through the most difficult times of their lives."
