Lorry driver passes away in A1 RAF Wittering crash

A man passed away in a crash on the A1 on Sunday, 28 May 2023.

The incident took place on the A1, Townsend Road junction for Wittering.

At approximately 3:20pm, a lorry travelling northbound appeared to have left the road and collided with the perimeter fence at RAF Wittering.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where the driver of the lorry, a male in his 40s, was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Mark Atkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: "The lorry driver has, sadly, lost his life and my thoughts are with him and his loved ones.

"I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the lorry before it left the road, or has dashcam footage."

The team confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.

Cambridgeshire Police have encouraged individuals who may have any information to come forward using the reference 35/39538/23.
