A Ketton bridge has been damaged after being struck by a lorry on the morning of the 5th of November 2022.

The railway bridge, which crosses Stamford Road (A6121) at Ketton, was hit by a lorry carrying a heavy load just after 7am on Saturday.

The bridge will need significant repairs, with major parts expected to be replaced in the coming fortnight.

The repairs are likely to take 2 weeks, during which time the trains passing through, including the Leicester to Peterborough and Stanstead to Birmingham routes, will face disruption.

Find out more on the National Rail website. Here, you can also find out more about the 'suspended' rail strikes that continue to cause disruption.

Gary Walsh, route director for Network Rail said: "I am really sorry that passengers and the community are likely to be affected by this accident for some time. The impact has cause significant damage and our engineers have to replace two structural beams as well as then reinstating the track, signals and other railway equipment on top of the bridge.

"We're doing everything we can to get trains moving again safely and thank everyone for their patience while we carry out this work."
