McDonalds in Oakham has announced it is to close early today.

The move follows other businesses also shutting their doors for safety and crime concerns following the 'religious' festival at Rutland Showground.

The fast food company posted on Facebook: "To ensure the continued safety of our staff we have made the decision to close at 7pm until further notice. This is to make sure our staff are able to get home safely.

"We will only open between the hours of 6am and 7pm. Drive thru only. We are not able to serve people that are not in a motor vehicle for safety reasons."

"All other service platforms will not be in use including click and serve and instore.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to our regular customers."

Other businesses have also closed. They include the Railway Inn/ Platform One pub in Oakham, which also was closed yesterday.

It posted on Facebook earlier today: "Once again we have decided its best for all to close today for the safety of customers, staff & our property.

"We are continuing to monitor local news pages and are in regular contact with local police to get as much news & information going forward.

"We apologise for any inconvenience but please bare with us during these very strange times."

The Royal Duke at 8 West Road also closed yesterday. It posted on facebook today: "Hi guys we are remaining closed today as for safety of staff and customers remain safe and look forward to seeing you all soon."

The Waffle Bowl also said it was closed yesterday but has posted no closure message on its Facebook page for today.

Bill's Bar closed early on Saturday, but remained open on Sunday, saying it was taking each hour as it comes.
