Royal Mail strikes are set to go head this September, and will impact people nationwide and in Rutland.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has called on its members who collect, sort and deliver parcels and mail to take strike action on the 8th and 9th of September 2022. This follows the August strikes that took place on the 26th and 31st of August.
Royal Mail have said: "We're really sorry for the disruption that this strike action is likely to cause to you. We want to reassure you we will do everything we can to minimise disruption and get our services back to normal as quickly as possible."
Royal Mail has well-developed contingency plans, but they cannot fully replace the daily efforts of its frontline workforce. We will be doing what we can to keep services running, but customers should expect significant disruption.
These strikes are scheduled to take place on:
- Thursday 8th September
- Friday 9th September
On days when strike action is taking place, Royal Mail will:
- deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible
- prioritise the delivery of COVID test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible
- not be delivering letters (with the exception of Special Delivery)
What you can do:
- post your items as early as possible in advance of the strike dates
- continue to post your items at Postboxes or Post Offices, however collections will be less frequent on days when strike action is taking place
Post Offices will be open and offering the usual range of services on days when strike action is taking place. However, collections by Royal Mail from Post Offices will be limited. Customers should expect delays to items sent on strike days and on the days immediately after strike action.
Similarly, post boxes will be in use throughout the strike action, but collections will be limited and Royal Mail cannot guarantee that your post will be collected in line with the usual schedule.
As such, Rutland residents should expect both incoming and outgoing post to be delayed at the end of this week, with delays following into next week.
