Police are trying to track down a motorist who asked a teenage girl to get into his car in Uppingham.

The incident happened shortly after 8pm on Sunday, 22 September.

At around 8pm the 16-year-old girl was walking along Ayston Road with a friend when a silver car drove past and the driver shouted from the car.

A short time later, as the girl carried on walking alone, the same car stopped in North Street West.

The driver got out and asked the girl to get in the car before she ran home.

PC Robin Bonell, the investigating officer, said: "The girl did exactly the right thing by running off and reporting the incident to an adult when she got home."

The car driver is described as white, aged between 25 and 30, around 5ft 8ins with dark blonde hair and of a large build. He spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a grey jumper and black jeans.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV in the local area and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or know the man, to get in touch.

Police also want anyone who has been approached in similar circumstances to get in touch as they may have information that could help the enquiry.
