Alicia Kearns, Conservative MP for Rutland and Stamford, has launched a competition to highlight and celebrate the independent businesses of Rutland and Stamford.

The competition, says Kearns, is not just to celebrate but to also help raise the profile of local independent businesses across Rutland, Stamford, South Kesteven and the Harborough Villages.

"We are fortunate to have so many wonderful independent businesses locally," said Kearns, "but they need our support.

"This competition is a small way of playing my part by celebrating and raising their profile. Thousands of you voted last year, so please do get behind out local businesses in the lead up to Christmas and give them the recognition they deserve."

Last year, before the changes in the constituency boundaries, Kearns' competition 'Rutland and Melton's Favourite Independent Shop' received over 20,000 votes. The inner was named Hill Top Farm Shop, which is on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray.

Nominations for favourite independent shop have been split into 13 categories: beauty, pampering and wellness; butcher; café; clothing and accessories; craft and hobby; farm and produce; food and drink; garden; gifts and stationery; homeware; pharmacy; village shop; and other.

To nominate a shop, go to Alicia Kearns' website. Nominations close on 12th December. A shortlist will then be created and people can vote until 26th January. The winners of the competition will be announced in February 2025.
