An Oakham supermarket is set to become home to a new fitness centre, including saunas and an ice bath, changing rooms, studios, a juice bar and gym equipment.

Method Health Club applied or permission back in June to change the use of part of the building to an Indoor Fitness Centre.

These plans have now been approved by Rutland County Council and the new facility is looking to open next year.

A Design and Access Statement states: "As shown on the plans, the Site is proposed to be used for an indoor fitness centre, including personal training offering and fitness classes led by an instructor.

"On the ground floor, there is a lobby space, locker space, disabled changing space, juice bar, office and reception, seating area, showers, two saunas and ice baths and a separate male and female changing areas with WC.

Method Health Club are planning to open the facility in 2025 (Image via planning application).

"Also on the ground floor, there is also a large functional training area for SGPT along with a wide range of strength kit, weights and cardio equipment. On the proposed mezzanine floor, there will be a wellness studio for yoga, Pilates and other wellness offerings, as well as a fitness suite and a store room."

Once open, new fitness centre will operate between 6am and 9pm Monday to Thursday, 6am to 8pm on Friday, 7am to 4pm on Saturday and 9am to 1pm on Sunday.

This comes following the closure of Catmose Sports Centre, after a decision made by Rutland County Council to no longer subsidise the centre and the failure to secure a provider that could run the centre at nil cost to the council.
