A new forest school nursery is set to open in Rutland in time for the schools to start back in September.

A new nursery school named Wing Wildlings Nursery is on its way at Rutland Outdoor Education Centre.

Rutland Outdoor Education Centre (ROEC), an established local business with a focus on outdoor education, will be launching the new nursery in early September 2023.

ROEC offer complete outdoor learning experiences where children can come and learn new skills at their base on Wing Hall Farm.

The team advocate the benefits of Forest school and outdoor education, and will now be bringing this to Rutland children aged two, three and four with their new nursery.

While ROEC is based at Wing Hall Farm, the new nursery will be running from Wing Village Hall, and taking excursions to the farm two or three days a week so that the children can get hands-on with the animals on site and enjoy the forest school element of the services on offer.

The Forest School concept was created in Scandinavia. It is all about empowering children to explore and experience the natural world through activities in the outdoors. The concept has proven to develop the self-esteem and confidence in children of all ages through activities that involve creativity, working together and child-led learning.

Children are given opportunities to experience challenge through tasks which are both achievable and a challenge. We believe this encourages children of any age to try and persevere at a task which is within their abilities to achieve.

They will be able to enjoy sitting around the campfire, cooking on it, mud play, pond dipping and much more, as well as exploring the farm feeding the animals, learning about the animal and their needs and getting hands on.

The new nursery will be opening in September to two, three and four year olds and running from Monday to Friday, 7:30am until 6pm.

Childcare vouchers will be accepted.
