Cllr Adam Lowe, former mayor of Oakham, has returned to the post he held five years ago.

The announcement about Adam Lowe was made at the Oakham's annual town meeting on Wednesday 8 May, at which outgoing mayor Cllr Sally-Anne Wadsworth handed over the chain of office.

In accepting the role, Cllr Lowe, who was previously mayor of Oakham from 2018 to 2019, said: "I would like to thank the outgoing mayor for taking on the role not just for one year, but for two, and thank her for all the work she has done in that time."

A bouquet of flowers and ceremonial gift were presented and, as is traditional, outgoing mayors normally receive a memorial badge of office.

"But we appear to have run out of them!", the new mayor said. "So, I am going to give you mine instead."

Cllr Lowe, who was subject to a nine-month investigation in 2021/22 after making comments to the then mayor of Oakham Zoë Nealson that were deemed to be 'disrespectful and intimidating', added: "As you know, I have been mayor of Oakham before, and I promise that I will try and get it right this time!"

Cllr Chris Nix, who owns Ovation with partner Bianca, continues in the role of deputy mayor.

The mayor automatically becomes chairman of Oakham Town Council for the year 2024/25, and the deputy mayor, the vice-chairman.
