NightSwim returns to Rutland Water

Swimmers are once again being given the opportunity to experience the thrill of taking to open water beneath the stars.

SwimRutland's hugely popular NightSwim will be staged at the end of August at Whitwell Creek, Rutland Water.

SwimRutland says: "This unique experience will enliven your senses and create an atmosphere you will struggle to replicate.

"The course is completed in darkness with the moon and the stars lighting the way."

There are two looped courses to choose from - the main one is about 600m and the shorter, more sheltered course with easier access to the shore, is 250m. There will be a back up course in the event of the weather compromising safety.

The swim is not a competitive event and those taking part can complete as many laps as they want within the time limit.

Anyone aged 16 and over can take part, provided they can swim the distance unassisted.

"We don't mind how, breastroke is not only an option it's often preferable, to soak it all in," adds SwimRutland.

Wetsuits, which can be hired on the night for £5, and swim floats which are included in the entry fee, are compulsory.

"Each swimmer is also issued with a glowstick, a NightSwim swim hat, safety wristbands and an emergency whistle.

"Safety is paramount, our kayak crews will be keeping a close watch on everyone while giving them the freedom to explore the environment at night."

After completing the course the SwimRutland team will be serving refreshments.

The event is being held on August 31, starting at 8pm, and the swim start line is at Whitwell, next to Rutland Watersports.

Entry is £38 per person in advance, with a limit of 250 swimmers. The entry deadline is August 25 and registration on that day will be £45.

The fee includes parking charges at Whitwell, swim floats, swim hat, glow stick and glow wrist bands, emergency whistle, marked course, finisher tee shirt and a hot drink and snack.
