Top cop PC Joe Lloyd has been named the Beat Bobby of the Year at last night's Leicestershire Police Chief Constable Awards.

The beat officer for Oakham and Barleythorpe scooped the title in recognition of his work with veterans and nine years' dedicated service to his community.

Joe was nominated by members of the public, one of whom described him as 'a credit to Leicestershire Police and a true asset to Rutland'.

PC Lloyd, who has been an officer for nearly 18 years, told Oakham Nub News this morning (Fri): "I was very pleased to be nominated and it's fantastic to win.

"It's important because I was nominated by the community I serve."

PC Lloyd has been nominated for the Beat Bobby of the Year award for three years running and was highly commended in 2018 and 2019.

"Previously, I've always been the bridesmaid, but never the bride - so I'm really chuffed to win this year," he said.

In typical PC Lloyd style, after just five hours sleep he was back at his desk this morning preparing for another day of community policing.

"I'm celebrating with a coffee and then its just back to cracking on to the normal day-to-day work.

"I'm just on my way to support a Child Sexual Exploitation awareness event for taxi drivers at Rutland County Council," he added.
