Oakham Book Swap is supporting Rutland Clothing Bank this month, and will be hosting a Big Book Swap to raise funds for the local mental health charity.

Each month, a local group who swap and exchange books while raising money for a range of good causes, select a new local or national charity to support. Last year, they supported 12 local and national charities and raised over £300 through donations and raffles.

Run by Lisa Batty, Oakham Book Swap collects donations and runs a raffle in aid of a different charity each month, all while running a regular book box outside her family home when the weather allows it.

Oakham Book Swap is a community-led project that hosts a pop-up book swap box on Tyne Road, Oakham. Residents are invited to pick up a new book or drop off unwanted books to share with other readers.

The swap contains fiction and non-fiction books for anyone aged 3 - 93, and is open to all. It opens when the weather permits and the team host regular 'Book Swap' events to raise much-needed funds for local and national charities.

Lisa explained: "This month's chosen charity is Rutland Clothing Bank, hosted by Oakham Baptist Church and providing clothing from baby clothes to winter coats. Please follow their page to see how you can help when they have requests from those in need.

"At our Big Book Swap on Sunday 21 July the donations and raffle ticket purchases will be donated to the Clothing Bank."

Lisa added: "They also host a School Uniform Swap (you know we love a swap event!), where you can donate unwanted school uniform or pick up some new uniform ahead of the new school year."
