Councillor Adam Lowe, Chairman of Oakham Town Council and Mayor of Oakham, has given a statement to Nub News ahead of his final speech at Oakham Council tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening (23 September), a meeting will be held at the council chamber in Oakham where a new chairman will be elected.

At this meeting, Cllr Lowe will give his final speech as Chairman and Mayor, reflecting on his time in the role and the good he has done to the local area.

"My decision to resign as Chairman of Oakham Town Council," said Cllr Lowe, "is simply a change of direction that allows me to focus my finite time to a recent career move working with another Town Council serving another community.

"I joined Oakham Town Council in 2010. Looking back over the last 14 years, I have only happy memories. To serve the Oakham Community for 14 years as a Councillor and to have raised or donated in excess £25,000 for various organisations and groups over that time is a benchmark by which I judge by contribution.

"Since becoming Mayor in May 2024, my wife and I have raised £2090, that money has already been handed over with £1645 going to The Poppy Appeal and £450 going to the Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club.

"My heartfelt sincere thanks and appreciation are extended to all the Councillors and staff I have had the pleasure of knowing and worked with at Oakham Town Council."

Cllr Lowe's decision to step down will allow him more time on his role at Uppingham Council.

Speaking about Cllr Lowe's time as Chairman and Mayor, Oakham Town Council Clerk Chris Evans said: "his track record of work for the community for many years is exceptional."

The meeting in which Cllr Lowe will make this final speech, and the council will elect a new Chairman will happen on Wednesday 23rd October at 5.45pm at the Council Chamber on Long Row, Oakham.
