Fast-food giant McDonald's is aiming to open its Oakham drive-thru restaurant later this year.

A spokesperson told Oakham Nub News: "We are excited about getting on site and starting building works in Oakham and hope to have everything ready to open the restaurant sometime before the end of 2020.

"We will start recruitment later in the year and encourage anyone who is interested to keep an eye on our website for further information."

Plans for the McDonald's restaurant in England's only county currently without the golden arches were given the green light last month (Jan) by Rutland County Council's planning and licensing committee.

The committee voted eight in favour of the application, with one member abstaining.

McDonald's franchisee with 11 restaurants in the East Midlands, Martin Cuthbert, told the meeting he hopes to take on the Oakham franchise being built on undeveloped land at Hawkesmead Business Estate, off Lands End Way.

Oakham McDonald's will create 65 full and part-time new jobs.
